The Fact

Pew Research Center’s analysis of Current Population Survey data found that about 37% of working-age married women with young children were employed in 1968. By 2011, about 65% were employed.

What This Means

During the years Generation X was being born and raised, paid employment became much more common among mothers with young children. That changed how households had to organize supervision, childcare, meals, transportation, and other daily work.
