The Fact
Global Workplace Analytics estimates that an employer saves about $11,000 per year for every employee who works remotely half of the time, through lower real-estate and facilities costs, higher productivity, and reduced turnover and absenteeism.
What This Means
Remote work can create real benefits for workers, especially less commuting. But it can also improve the employer’s balance sheet by removing office costs while the worker’s home supplies part of the physical workplace. Looking at both ledgers is necessary to see who gained which savings and who absorbed which costs.
