The Fact

Modern kidney research identifies progesterone receptors in kidney tissue and finds that progesterone participates in renal blood flow, filtration, sodium and water handling, and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. A 2025 review concluded that estrogen and progesterone have protective effects on renal blood flow, glomerular filtration and nephron ion-and-water handling.

What This Means

Progesterone is doing work in her kidneys. It participates in how they filter blood and manage salt, water and circulation. Calling it only a reproductive hormone leaves out an organ system she needs every day of her life.

A woman cannot understand her kidney physiology if one of the chemical signals acting there has been taught to her only as a pregnancy hormone.
