64% of Workers Age 50 and Older Have Seen or Experienced Age Discrimination at Work
The Fact
In an AARP survey of 1,656 workers age 50 and older published in 2026, 64% said they had seen or experienced age discrimination at work, and 22% said they feel they are being pushed out of their job. Forms of bias workers reported included assumptions that older employees are less tech-savvy and preference for younger employees for training.
What This Means
Most older workers have run into age bias, and about 1 in 5 feel it pushing them toward the door.
Why It Matters
When this many people report the same thing, it is a pattern, not a personal failure.
