50% of Job Seekers Age 50+ Felt Pressure to Hide Their Age to Appear Digitally Competent
The Fact
In a resume.io survey of 600 U.S. job seekers age 50 and older reported in June 2026, 50.1% felt pressure to hide their age to appear digitally competent, 28.8% had removed older experience from their resumes, and 40.7% said they had been asked age-related questions in interviews.
What This Means
Many experienced workers are cutting their own experience off the page to get past the first look.
Why It Matters
When people have to hide decades of experience to be considered, the hiring system is filtering out exactly what it claims to want.
