The Fact

Pew Research Center reported that among adults ages 25–39 living in multigenerational households, 51% said the living arrangement helped them financially at least a little.

What This Means

Shared housing can function as an economic support mechanism for younger adults. That helps explain why multigenerational living can persist even when adults would otherwise prefer independent households.
