The Fact

HUD counted 184,888 men and boys among people experiencing unsheltered homelessness in 2024, representing 67.4% of the unsheltered homeless population. Women and girls accounted for 30.6%.

What This Means

When men fall out of housing, they are disproportionately the people sleeping outside rather than in shelter. That makes unsheltered homelessness another visible end point of male social and economic breakdown.
