The Fact

Christian and Buddhist source texts both warn against organizing life around acquisition or craving. Jesus warns that life does not consist in an abundance of possessions (Luke 12:15). The Dhammapada repeatedly treats uncontrolled desire and attachment to pleasure as sources of suffering and loss of self-command.

What This Means

The theological explanations differ, but both traditions identify excessive wanting—not simply lack of possessions—as a human problem.
