The Fact

A 2019 survey of residents in family medicine, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology at 20 U.S. programs found that only 6.8% (12 of 177) felt adequately prepared to manage women experiencing menopause. 20.3% said they had received no menopause lectures during residency.

What This Means

Fewer than 1 in 10 of the young doctors who will see midlife women felt ready to help them through menopause. If your doctor seems unsure, this is part of why.
