The Fact
Of 5,070 fatal occupational injuries recorded in the United States in 2024, 4,657 were men and 413 were women. Men therefore accounted for about 92% of all fatal work injuries.
What This Means
The physical risk built into the labor market is not distributed evenly. Men perform a very large share of the jobs in which a bad day can mean death, so any honest picture of men's burden has to include occupational mortality, not only wages or employment rates.
