AARP and the National Alliance for Caregiving reported that 63 million Americans were family caregivers in 2025, nearly 50% more than in 2015.

What This Means

Family caregiving is not a small side issue. Tens of millions of adults are supplying care outside the paid long-term-care system, and the number has grown sharply over the last decade.
