The Fact
In January 2024, the median tenure of U.S. wage-and-salary workers ages 55–64 with their current employer was 9.6 years, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
What This Means
Workers in their late 50s and early 60s are often not casual newcomers to their jobs. The typical worker in this age range had nearly a decade invested with the current employer.
