The Fact

In the Bureau of Labor Statistics survey of long-tenured workers displaced during 2023–2025, 47.7% reported that their job ended because a position or shift was abolished. That was a larger share than plant or company closings or moves and insufficient work.

What This Means

A large share of displacement is not a worker deciding to quit or simply failing at a job. The job itself can be removed from the organization.
