The Fact

In 2024, life expectancy at birth was 76.5 years for males and 81.4 years for females in the United States, a gap of 4.9 years.

What This Means

Men are dying younger at population scale. That gap is the accumulated result of many causes—disease, injury, overdose, suicide, occupational exposure and other mortality risks—and it belongs in the same picture as the other male burden statistics.
