The Fact

Pew Research Center reported that among parents living with an adult child in a multigenerational household, 63% said they paid more than half of the rent or mortgage, including 51% who said they paid all of it.

What This Means

When adult children live with parents, the housing support often falls primarily on the parent household. That connects delayed independent adulthood directly to the midlife family budget.
