BLS Says AI's Effect on Future Employment Is Highly Uncertain and May Not Show in Historical Data
The Fact
The Bureau of Labor Statistics says its analyses of AI 'involve various levels of uncertainty about how emerging technologies will impact future employment,' that it studies factors 'which may not be reflected in historical data, such as new technologies,' and that it applies adjustments 'conservatively, where there is convincing evidence for a change.'
What This Means
The government's own numbers wait for proof. Changes on the ground can show up in the data later.
Why It Matters
If what you see does not match the headlines yet, the official count may simply not have caught up.
