The Fact

From January 2023 through December 2025, 3.3 million U.S. workers were displaced from jobs they had held for at least three years. BLS defines displacement here as losing or leaving a job because the plant or company closed or moved, there was insufficient work, or the worker’s position or shift was abolished.

What This Means

Job displacement is not limited to short-term or loosely attached workers. Millions of people lost jobs after building at least three years of tenure with the employer.
