The Fact
Among long-tenured workers displaced during 2023–2025, about 58% of those losing jobs because a plant or company closed or moved received written advance notice. The share was about 42% for workers whose position or shift was abolished and about 32% for those displaced because there was insufficient work.
What This Means
How much warning workers received depended strongly on how the job disappeared. Workers losing jobs because work simply dried up were the least likely of these three groups to receive written advance notice.
