What Doesn’t Medicare Cover? Most Dental, Hearing Aids, and Long-Term Care.

Original Medicare Does Not Cover Most Dental Care, Hearing Aids, or Long-Term Custodial Care

The Fact

Medicare.gov lists services that Original Medicare (Parts A and B) does not cover, including long-term care (custodial care), most dental care, eye exams for prescribing glasses, dentures, hearing aids and exams for fitting them, cosmetic surgery, and routine foot care.

What This Means

Turning 65 does not mean all your health costs are covered. Some of the most common needs as you age fall outside Original Medicare.

Why It Matters

Planning for retirement means planning for the costs Medicare leaves to you.
